Getting out into the great outdoors
We're routinely told it is good for juniors to be active and spend time outdoors. Too right. And so we thought to do just that. A trip to the park, a ride on the bikes, throw in a few cousins and you pretty much have junior-recipe-tester nirvana.
Drink bottles. Check. Morning tea. Check. Hats and sunscreen. Check, check. Bikes. ...Ah.
Ultra-marathon for the under-aged
Despite their enthusiasm for public transport of all persuasions, this adventure wasn't the juniors' fault. Generally, school holiday outings involve one kind of public transport, an icecream, and everyone's happy. Yesterday we accidentally ended up on an ultramarathon. At a couple of points I wondered whether we'd ever make it home. So did the juniors.
Social enterprise - innovation at its finest?
I am very grateful to Parramatta City Rotary Club for inviting me to present to their meeting last week. They not only put on a delicious lunch (I'm always motivated by good food), but were very interested in what Dinner on the Table is doing in the social sector and eager to offer their support. We look forward to staying in touch!

Cupcakes and carrots
One of the junior recipe testers celebrated a birthday on the weekend. Being among the youngest in her class, her birthday is always much longed-for as finally 'catching up' to everyone else. A party was planned and a cake was selected.

When the chips are down...
This week I've had pause to consider our own daily routine. Mostly I've had pause because I, along with every member of the clan, have been down with a virus. Day to day we generally manage just fine...

The plunger and the puller
This week we have dealt with colds. All of the juniors have suffered through a rather vicious bug complete with endless high fevers. I've learned a few things.

What if...
From July this year the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will be rolled out across NSW. This scheme represents a major shakeup of how support services have been provided to date for people with disabilities and their families.

Aging negotiation
Discussion and debate are a big deal in my house. In fact, when negotiation becomes an Olympic sport we will have a couple of contenders who have already qualified in preliminary rounds. The senior recipe tester, who is the most able to control the desire to talk, often wishes that a contagious case of lockjaw would sweep through the halls. He's still waiting.
Family wellbeing
I want you to think back to what you did this morning, from the time when you first woke up. Did you drink a cup of tea? Sit and read the paper? Catch up on emails? Dress and feed children? Chase the bin truck down the street, because, curses, if you don't catch it there's going to be a hell of a problem by Sunday?
