A grazing board makes arrival easy. Guests help themselves from the moment they walk in, the host doesn't have to think about it, and the table looks like you've put in far more effort than you have. We make ours from scratch in our Castle Hill kitchen, every element chosen for what it actually tastes like, not just how it photographs.

Canapés work differently. They're served to your guests, which keeps the food warm and gives the event a particular kind of energy. A welcoming, hosted feel that a self-serve table doesn't quite replicate.

The two work well together: a grazing board for arrival, canapés served through the evening. We'll guide you through what makes sense for your event when you enquire. There's no pressure to choose before you've talked it through.

Grazing boards

Real boards. Proper ingredients. Styled on arrival.

Our grazing boards don't follow a formula. The base is always seasonal produce chosen for flavour - cheese and charcuterie if that's what you want, but also Middle Eastern spreads, Asian-inspired platters, sweet dessert boards, or anything in between. Canapés can go on the board too. We'll build whatever makes sense for your event and your guests.

We can style and set up the board at your venue before guests arrive. You don't need to think about it.

Sizes

  • Large 15–20 guests: the most popular starting point for parties and celebrations
  • Medium 10–12 guests: good for smaller gatherings and home entertaining
  • Small 5–8 guests: grazing for a smaller group, or a supplementary board alongside other food

For larger events we offer grazing boards styled and set up at your venue. Let us know your guest numbers when you enquire and we'll recommend the right option.

We make our canapés from scratch in our Castle Hill kitchen. The small number of speciality items we purchase are from trusted suppliers. Hot canapés come out hot. Cold canapés stay fresh. The difference is noticeable.

Our team serves canapés through your event for as long as you need. You don't think about refills, pacing or timing. We handle all of it.

We can style and set up the full spread at your venue before guests arrive: boards laid out, canapés ready to serve. Or, if you'd prefer to handle serving yourself, we deliver everything packed in grazing boxes, ready to plate and go. Tell us which suits your event and we'll quote accordingly.

Common questions

Questions we get asked about grazing and canapés.

Both. If we're providing a styled set up we bring the boards and any servingware needed to set up your board at your venue, before your guests arrive. For larger grazing tables and staffed canapé events, our team stays for service. We'll tell you what's involved when we send your quote.

Our small grazing boards start from around 10 guests. For canapé packages, a minimum usually applies - ask us when you enquire and we'll be straight about what works for your numbers.

Yes. Gluten free options are available across all boards and canapé packages. We can also build fully gluten free boards on request. We accommodate dairy free, vegetarian, vegan, nut free and other requirements as a standard part of the process. Note any requirements in your enquiry and we'll build them in from the start. We're used to events where a good portion of the room has different needs. It's not a problem.

A rough guide: 4–6 pieces per person for a pre-dinner welcome reception; 8–10 pieces for a 2-hour cocktail party without a sit-down meal; 12–15 pieces for a longer cocktail event where canapés replace dinner. We'll give you a specific recommendation based on your event format when we quote.

Yes. We supply all boards, platters and serving equipment as part of a staffed or set up service. You don't need to source anything or provide anything on the day.

Yes — the PDF menus are linked in the sections above. They give you a solid starting point. Most events involve some customisation around dietary requirements or seasonal availability, so think of the menus as a guide rather than a fixed list. If you don't see something you want, ask. If we can make it, we will.

For most events, two to three weeks gives us what we need. In busy periods such as December, long weekends, or school holidays we fill up faster. If your event is coming up quickly, get in touch anyway. We'll do everything we can to assist you.

Our kitchen is in Castle Hill, so the Hills District is our home territory. We deliver and set up regularly across the Hills District, North Shore, Parramatta area and Inner West. We've also gone much further than that for the right event. If you're not sure whether we cover your area, get in touch and we'll tell you honestly.

Our kitchen is in Castle Hill. Most of our grazing and canapé events are across the Hills District, the North Shore and Parramatta region. We also deliver regularly to the Inner West and Eastern Suburbs.

If your event is outside these areas, get in touch. We've set up grazing tables in places that surprised even us.

About Dinner on the Table

We've been cooking for people since 2014.

We're a social enterprise based in Castle Hill. Almost everything we serve is made from scratch in our own commercial kitchen by our team of talented chefs using real ingredients. The small number of speciality items we purchase are from our trusted suppliers. After twelve years and more events than we can count, the food is consistently good. The grazing boards and canapés that come out of our kitchen are the same ones we serve to people we know and love.
