We've talked in the past about the American-isation of various corners of our society. In my opinion, we need not be hysterical about the American-isation of our dinner tables. Unless there is any aerosol cheese involved: that is a crime against humanity, deserving of a session at The Hague. Apple Pie, however, is a different matter.
I will spend my life trying to emulate my grandmother's Apple Pie. She made apple pie. Full stop. This isn't hers, but it's a pretty darn good pie (even if I do say so myself).
This pie cooks beautifully straight from the freezer. Put it straight into your moderately hot oven for around 45- 60mins. Dust with icing sugar just before serving.
Loaded with granny smiths, which we lovingly spiced and cooked. I cannot explain the disappointment of a beautiful pie filled with raw apple... so we won't have that. Wrapped in our homemade shortcrust it's a must have for an evening in, or a picnic out.
